Homework 5

General Physics I, Fall '10, Homework 5 (UP Chapter 4)

Please write legible solutions in which you not only show your work, but explain (in words and sentences) what you are doing and why.

1. Problem 5 ("components")

2. Problem 10 ("rock faults")

3. Problem 17 ("two vectors")

4. Problem 27 ("prove by components" -- note that here you're deriving the so-called "law of cosines")

5. Think about the equation "F = ma" where "F" and "a" are vectors. What does this equation mean, exactly? Answer once in terms of magnitude and direction, then again in terms of vector components.
