1.2 -- Making a Dance from a Phrase -- Due 9/20
Build a short dance (2-4 minutes) using one of your phrases as the material.
Allow yourself to slice up, vary and repeat your phrase as you grow it from a single string of movements into a whole dance. The original sequence of the phrase does not need to appear from beginning to end in the dance.
Then add some spices to your dance – some contrast, a break in the world of your phrase, or perhaps something to frame the movement (costume, music, set, props, text, an entrance and exit, a specific location, etc.). Play with a number of different seasonings to see which combination brings your movement to life in a particularly tasty way.
Give your dance a clear beginning, middle and end.
Map the space and energy of your dance as part of your process.
