Music Theory Fundamentals
This is the first of a four-course sequence designed as an intensive practical training for students interested in making music. The primary emphasis in this course is on practice – in both senses of the word. We will practice singing, reading and playing music, progressing steadily from the very basics of music notation and singing single pitches in time to complex multi-part performances. During the second part of the semester, we will also begin work on analysis and composition.
A facility with an instrument is not needed, nor is prior musical knowledge.
