Fall 2011

Students applying to the World Studies Program this year (2011/12) must complete this application after taking the World Studies Colloquium. Please submit completed applications to Todd Smith or Susie Belleci (Associate Director for World Studies), by Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at 3:00.

Applications will be reviewed by the Committee for World Studies. The goal of this review is to ensure a good match between the goals of the students who enter the Program and the objectives of the World Studies Program. Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision by one of the Committee members.

This application for admission to the World Studies Program consists of writing an essay of no more than three pages (total) in response to the following questions:

1. Describe a cross-cultural experience that you have had. Why was this experience significant to you? Please note that you can have a cross-cultural experience without leaving the country.

2. At this stage of your undergraduate experience you need not have a fully conceived idea for an internship or even a disciplinary focus. But please engage in some speculation about where you are headed academically. That is, in which direction do you see yourself heading to fulfill those goals of the World Studies Program?

3. What else do you intend to do during your time at Marlboro to develop a global perspective?
