9/26-10/13:
Reading pp. 19-38

Practice:
Analyze the improvisation in your chosen recording according to musical parameters you have decided are most prominent  (register, rhythm, density, etc.) Write down your analysis based on a recorded time code and/or a standard notation format. Due October 20.

9/19:
Reading:
Chapters 1 & 2 in the book.

Practice:
Choose a musical phrase from the recording you picked:
Learn how to play it.
Practice (at least) 8 different ways to paraphrase it.

9/12:

Reading:
The Last chapter in the book.

Practice:
Pick a model improviser to emulate. Find a recorded track of a favorite performance. Listen to it intently, and familiarize yourself with it. (You should be familiar enough with the recording so you can project forward and anticipate the music coming up, such that you are never taken by surprise with how the music unfolds.
